How are we organized?
We represent the interests of musicians in professional orchestras and public broadcaster choirs; freelancers; and music higher education lecturers and students.
As a union we are committed to fair working conditions and fair remuneration. Our organisation is committed to the preservation and development of our globally unique orchestra and music scene.
Professional musicians founded the DOV in 1952 (you can read about our history here – Link to History). In October 2022 we changed our name to unisono. Today unisono has approximately 12,800 members including nearly all the musicians in professional orchestras and public broadcaster choirs; freelance musicians; and music higher education lecturers and students. unisono has a special cultural-political commitment to developing and preserving orchestras, theatre and public broadcaster choirs.
We have a 90 percent membership rate in orchestras and public broadcaster choirs. That is only made possible through special solidarity and voluntary involvement. Both these things have shaped unisono from the start.
Fifteen full-time employees work in the central office in Berlin. Together with some 250 members working voluntarily, they look after implementation of unisono’s resolutions and goals.
